Please, Believe Me While I’m Still Alive.
The growing cost of apathy.
There is nothing that can be done with vacant textual sentiments anymore.
I can no longer bear the weight of retelling what others chose to glance past. If you couldn’t make time to watch or read what has been made conveniently accessible, do not ask me to bleed it back to you.
Update
On July 17, 2025, I was informed that a photo is circulating of my former partner posing with what appears to be a pistol, bullets visible on the table. For someone in a public role, serving a community deeply impacted by generational trauma and domestic abuse, the optics alone are deeply unsettling and disturbing.
On July 20, 2025, at 10:03 PM, a man (not my former partner) was once again trespassing at my residence. I called 911 at 10:04 PM. It took 28 minutes for police to arrive. For those 28 minutes, I hid in my bathroom again, the 911 dispatcher my only tether as I waited in fear, listening for footsteps I prayed wouldn’t come closer to my window.
The officer didn’t believe me when I said this same man had trespassed before - on June 11, 2025. I stood in my doorway, freeze-framing and zooming in on my surveillance footage for the officer, trying to justify why it mattered, why the danger needed to be addressed.
I share this audio clip from the officer after having a friendly chat with the man:
I had programmed a deterrent warning sound (audible in the attached surveillance footage) but it made no difference. As is evident, he continues to trespass, undeterred and undisturbed.
Practically Speaking, Safety.
We need each other to remain safe. I offer some safety tips that have helped keep me safe:
✅ Record Everything: take photos & video, carry a pen and paper in case your recording device isn’t accessible
✅ Report Everything: even if law enforcement dismisses your experience as insignificant, report it anyway. Every documented incident strengthens your case and increases your chances of accessing protective measures.
✅ Tell Somebody: when possible, share incidents and supporting evidence with trusted people in your circle. Should anything happen to you, they’ll be in a position to speak to law enforcement from an informed and credible place.
✅ Location Sharing: Make sure your trusted support circle has access to your current location. If you use wearable technology, enable features like heart rate disruption alerts to notify your designated emergency contacts automatically. For iPhone users (apologies — I’m less familiar with Android settings), consider setting up your Medical ID so emergency contacts can inform authorities of any relevant medical conditions.
Practically Speaking, Action.
